Probably because it was set to the default time they come with out of the
box. Maybe IOS release date > current time? Good question I've never had
that problem before.

I was setting up SSH today and received an error when I generated the RSA
keys. The error was the routers time is not correct, so something like
that. I set the clock and everything worked.

How did the router know its own time was not correct?
