IPv6 Link-Local Address Changes

Just a quick general question. In most of the solutions provided in
Solution Guide of labs I'm using, the IPv6 link-local address of serial
interfaces is changed to something like Fe80::1 for R1, FE80::2 for R1 etc.
Is that something that would be allowed in the lab or is that just shown to
make the solution easier to understand? I'm curious as I always mess up on
the FR mapping for those and it would make life a lot easier if I could
just change it to something easier.

Thank you in advance for responses.
