That story has been posted on Cisco learning's facebook site a few
times. The guy just decided he wanted to do it, so he did it. Simple as
that.

I know I'm late to the party here, but when you're talking about an
intellectual pursuit age has nothing to do with it. 16 or 60, the
material is the material, the test is the test. I didn't start getting
certs till 3 years ago. I did the CCNA through CCIE in that time. It was
nothing but deciding on the goal, coming up with a plan to get from A to
B and FOLLOWING THROUGH.

There is a "success story" in the archives of Groupstudy, which was sent
by
a member I think 2-3 years ago.
The guy had just passed his first CCIE at the age of 60.
