Ya know what Scott, your are bringing up a a "Sad but True" point that goes
completely undetected.

I was teaching Prefix-lists to some students that were all "CCIE
candidates", and they ALL had no idea how to subnet quickly. A student
should have a strong understanding of subnetting to master prefix-lists. It
was weird. Narbik was just as shocked as I was.

It seems that people are now trying to prepare for the Advanced topics
without having a thorough understanding of the basics. This leads to over
preparing for the lab with lots and lots of holes, which often leads to
failure.

This did not happen in the past mostly because we had to set up the lab from
scratch and you had to have a little bit of design skill. This is not true
in the newer format.

I totally agree with Scott when he says that people think that 007 is needed
to pass when you actually NEED to use the right tool for the right job. That
is difficult enough without adding more pressure.

I believe this is where Narbik shines. My favorite line he says in class
above his "Grandma" is:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
student: Will that subject be on the exam? (like he would tell you, even
if he knew).

Narbik: I hope so, I just taught you everything there is to know about it?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

He honestly does not know and does not care if it will be on the exam. He
simply helps to make you smarter so you can think your way through.

The rest is up to you.

Paul
