Hey Dennis,
If power consumption is a concern, you can always pick up an IP enabled
power rail - just have the Linksys always powered up so you can go through
that to get to the rail and turn on the gear when you need to. Then you
don't need to stumble out to the garage from your office unless you need to
recable something. That's pretty much what I do - I have a Baytech RPC-3
but there are plenty of vendors out there. If you set up openvpn on the
DD-WRT box and you're on the road you can VPN into your lab whenever you get
a hankering to lab something up.
