David,
I'm recommending using aliases for the lab, not to be used on every device
you touch. You could have a strategy where you just copy aliases and paste
during the configuration part of the lab and then just delete them when you
are done. This doesn't relate to real life examples, but only as a method to
increase your speed in the configuration lab as the original question asked.
