Check out intermapper. Ive used it pretty extensively for monitoring over 2000 devices via snmp probes (has lots of already written probes plus you can write or download others), we also use it for alerting - it will push to email, sms & xmpp all fully customizable. Also eats netflow / sflow etc. You can also create graphs to graph interface utilization or any other integer values collected by your probes.
You can make your own maps, with custom icons or even overlay on googlemaps.. (you can make it pretty)

It runs on any platform.

You can download a free evaluation copy via there site...

there's probably a heap of other stuff it does too..
