I wouldn't be too terribly worried about this actually happening. Cisco isn't that stupid. Given Brian's notes from the CCIE panel at Cisco Live, they seem to take the integrity of the CCIE very seriously. The outcry would be huge from not only CCIE candidates, but current CCIE's as well, as no one wants the certification devalued.
If Cisco decided to turn full responsibility for the lab exam over to Pearson, they would effectively be ceding their position of being highly valued and sought after Certifications to Juniper, as everyone would probably start pursuing JNCIE, which would likely translate to a direct loss of market share - Cisco knows that their certification programs have an effect on purchase decisions, after all, it's a no brainer to purchase equipment that the majority of the workforce is actually trained to use. We haven't quite reached a point where network gear is commoditized the way server gear is.
