 If that were true than all the layoffs would come from management and
not engineering! Be realistic...

Brown nosing is part of it, because it's all about perceived value. At
least until someone else discovers that problems follow the person and
not always just the economy.

  project and its importance in the mix of projects that your group has to
  deliver..You can also inquire where you stand in your group..Thats about all
