Re: MacBook pro - OT

Everybody at some point in this discussion has mentioned very valuable informative opinion about MAC and Windows. I personally believe at this point that it's self preference. Most of us have used nothing for years other than a Windows box (myself included). So we are kind of like staying in a comfort zone. If you can as a techie, I would suggest you familiarize yourself or buy a MAC at some point.

I think windows machines is still well suited for the basic enterprise users. But for us techies, you've got to experience the MAC. Only then in my opinion will you truly appreciate the technology.

My story:

I started working for an ISP a little over a year ago. On my first day on the job they assigned me a MACbook pro "17. Gave me the basic orientation & let me loose. Here I was faced with this huge new network trying to understand their DWDM, R&S, video, Voice & I couldn't use the machine I was given. To say the list I felt super helpless/useless. Imagine your manager hyping your competency to your team and director & you are at your desk googling how to install a program on your machine. It was like learning the implication of right clicking as to left clicking for the first time. I was frustrated for I think 2 weeks as everyone mentioned. After that I got the basics down. Thank God most of my teammates had similar experiences a year before i started. I was begining to feel like a dorde. Today am not an expert yet but I am quick to open my MAC instead of my personal win7 laptop. Yes I carry both everywhere but use my MAC more. Programs like visio & others requiring explor!
 er, I use my Win7 laptop for but as mentioned, you can virtualize windows on your MAC. Now that am back on my IE pursuit, I run all my labs on my MAC. 13/15 routers running without the machine coughing.

If you a seriously considering getting a new computer & you can curse silently without destroying anything around you while you learn, get a MAC. You wouldn't regret it. :)
