RE: Question on MPLS TE

MPLS TE always requires RSVP. The actual MPLS Label for Traffic Engineering is bound via RSVP. This is opposed to a transport label being bound via LDP or a VPN label being bound via MP-BGP. You can do multipoint tunnels, but it's not really used for the type of application that you're talking about. Petr did some good write-ups before on M-LDP and RSVP-TE for establishing Multipoint LSPs. You can find them here: http://goo.gl/KpkyI Also while MPLS TE is a very important topic for real-world implementation of MPLS, it's not within the scope of the CCIE R&S Lab Exam. It would of course be in the scope of CCIE SP though.

If you want more detail about TE in general I would recommend http://goo.gl/x3rdU - MPLS-Enabled Applications: Emerging Developments and New Technologies

For basic TE implementation on IOS see http://goo.gl/eLqCT - MPLS Basic Traffic Engineering Using OSPF Configuration Example

Subject: Question on MPLS TE

Hi All,
In my MPLS VPN network, I have two PE routers and one P router. They are fully meshed, running MP-BGP. Everything looks good from MPLS VPN perspective. I want to do some TE in that. So far i understand :
1) You can either implement RSVP bandwidth in the links separately, or you can make end-to-end TE tunnel between the Edge PE's. These two are the broad classification of TE implementation in MPLS.
2) Can I make multi-point tunnels in MPLS TE? ie Can i make my P as the Tunnel Hub and PE routers as two separate Spokes? Please share the config if it can be done or share some link where i can study some tunnel implementation in MPLS TE
3) A Targeted LDP needs to be there between the EDGE LSR's of the Tunnels.
4) After entering this command the tunnel went up in my config:tunnel mpls traffic-eng path-option 10 dynamic Can anyone please explain the significance why it brought up the tunnel?
interface Tunnel1 ip unnumbered Loopback0 tunnel destination 3.3.3.3 tunnel mode mpls traffic-eng tunnel mpls traffic-eng autoroute announce tunnel mpls traffic-eng path-option 10 dynamic tunnel mpls traffic-eng path-selection metric te no routing dynamic ip rsvp bandwidth 100end Thank you,Naufal Jamal
