Hey team,

Was reading up on some blogs, and noticed some threads about keeping a
switch from becoming a root. I did some lab testing, and the results were
interesting to me. I played around a bit ...

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but figured I would bounce this off you all
and get your thoughts.

Here is how I believe you can keep a switch from becoming a root for all or
a subset of vlans:

1) Increase the priority to the highest value.
2) Any way to hard set the MAC address to a high number? I do not see any
way
3) Configure Uplink fast on the switch. No matter the spanning tree mode,
this increases the priority
4) Configure root guard on all other switches except the one switch
5) Turn off spanning tree for that vlan
6) Do not have that particular vlan in the vlan database. Use dot1q-tunnel
to connect devices on other switches and bypass the switch in the middle ...

Team - what am I missing?

Numbers 1 and 3 look the best to me because they seem the most simple ...
but I would love to hear your thoughts. Hope you all do not mind me
bringing up an old thread again!!!!!!!

Have a good night all,
