Dot1q tunnel - strange behaviour

Hi All,

I've noticed something strange, if the line protocol goes down at the device
at the far end (SW4), the line protocol on my device (SW1) goes down as
well. Which is a good thing. But I'm wondering why is it that the tunnelling
switch's (SW2 and SW3) line protocol does not go down as well? Is there a
way to see it go "down" on SW2?

SW1 ----- (start of dot1q tunnel) SW2 ---------SW3 (end of dot1q tunnel)
--------SW4
