scheduling lab at the last minute

Have any of you had any success scheduling your lab at the last minute? I
will need a seat in San Jose and don't want to schedule it 5 weeks in
advance. Are there generally unfilled seats or cancellations that can be
picked up 3 to 5 days before I want to take the lab?
