Re: OT: Routing-Bits Handbook RS?

Hi Steve,

I have the guide and like it. Ruhann does keep it updated - since
purchasing in October I have received several updates (from when it was
called Short Notes to to the current Routing Bits handbook). It comes
electronically in protected form (and your personal details are also
embedded on each page so if you can bypass the protection you may be
hesitant to pass it on to others) so it's unlikely to be readable with a
standard ebook reader though possibly you can read it with an ipad/iphone
(but I own neither) that wasn't a major problem for me though, since I took
it to a print shop and got them to print and bind it for me and then I put
those smaller "post it note" tabs hanging out as a marker/label for each
chapter for quick reference.

It's a good reference that directly follows the blue print in a no-nonsense
manner (i.e. it is not specifically a tutorial but it does cover
troubleshooting process) broken into topic areas (The 14 chapters are
Switching, FR, PPP, IP Routing, RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, Multicast,
IPv6, QoS, Security and Services)

Is it a must have for everyone? It's probably not 100% essential as plenty
of people have passed without it but at the same time I'm sure you will find
a number of people credit this in their blogs and in the GS archives. It
doesn't replace any other books or courses for the CCIE R&S V4.0 but as a
one stop reference directly related to the blueprint, if you don't have
fully detailed and organised notes of your own, this is probably a good
addition and put in your backpack...

Cheers,
Adam
