When Excel starts to make you angry, check out Evernote.
http://evernote.com/

-It's free (unless you need to upload an obscene amount of data per month...
I've never come close with my CCIE notes).
-It's flexible. I've setup a structure so I can store notes in the same
format as the the extended lab blueprint, along with documentation URL for
each topic.
-Clients for OS X, Windows, iPhone, Android.
-Can access/update your notes from anywhere including evernote.com (they're
stored in the cloud and automatically synced, so even when someone steals
your laptop or your hard drive crashes, your notes are safe).
-Can easily copy/paste sections of websites (and diagrams/formatting is
retained). Can also easily do screen captures to grab sections of slide
decks / VoD, etc.
-Can easily share notes with others.
