Re: Nexus 7k query

I personally wouldn't position the Nexus 7k for WAN aggregation, but in
theory you could probably carve out a separate VDC for that... Note that
WAN interfaces aren't supported on the platform, so it would have to be
Ethernet connectivity. I would recommend the ISR/ASR/7200 for a separate
WAN agg.

The Nexus 7k has its place in the DC core / agg where you have a need for
high 10GE port density, or if you're gearing up for end to end FCoE in the
DC. Also for connecting DCs with OTV as you mentioned...

You can direct attach an FCoE storage array to the Nexus 5k, but I don't
believe that it's supported on the 7k (yet). It may later with the F series
line cards, but don't quote me on either of those statements...

Hi All,

I appreciate if some one could guide me on the following queries.

Has any one deployed Nexus 7K box to do dual job of both DC WAN edge
aggregating routing & WAN Traffic Shaping , LLQ for 100 + Voice gateways on
WAN as well as doing DC core Vlan routing/switching for large server farm
and potentially replace 2 x DC comms devices of DC WAN Router & existing
DC core CAT 6k or 4k.

If answer is Yes , what are the performance issues you have faced so far in
this DC deployment method and how stable the box is so far ?

If answer is NO , then we can not we deploy Nexus 7k in this dual role ?
Meaning , do you recommend this design to your customers ?

The fact that , we can have 10GE to ESXi server farms and be able to get rid
of SPT all together and also can have VPLS kind of OTV capability to span
both Primary DC as well as DR DC on a single LAN subnet/segment are very
attractive reasons to go for Nexus 7K with in DC switching & internal vlan
routing ..etc. But I am not 100% sure (with out even going any where near
installing DSP chips or T1/E1 controllers or turning on MGCP or CUBE
functionality on it) on its ability to do 100% WAN Routing & WAN Qos with in
DC particularly at par with other DC dedicated boxes such as ASR 100Xs or
even 7206s or 7204s or 3945/ISR-G2..etc.

Secondly , can I connect SAN to Nexus directly with FCoE capability ?

As advanced skill sets on Nexus 7Ks are not that common around , I hoping to
pick up some help from this GS community.

thanks

tony
