Re: weird problem with ping (I know, shame on me)

I'm reaching here, but what if you cannot hit this destination address (say it's a serial link) because it's from a known IP pool with an ACL that blocks user ranges from connecting to it. Or at least that could be the case in some of the networks I work with.
 
Also, did you say that you can source your Ping from the gateway (user Vlan SVI) where that PC lives (& it's successful)? Have you tried changing the workstation IP & does this appear to be a range to range or specific IP to specific IP issue? Have you cleared your ARP & MAC entry in the 6500 (not that that makes any more sense than kicking the switch)?

From the user's machine I can ping plenty of other IPs including the default
gateway and other IPs many hops away.
