Under Serial-interface issue the command :

int serial <>
physical-layer async .

1) By default the interface will operate in SYNC mode
2) You can switch between sync and async mode
3) This is applicable to WIC / HWIC -2T , HWIC-1T , HWIC-2A/S etc . On
ISRs and ISR-G2 .. Other platform line cards ... I am not sure
