Do you have EIGRP stub configured on the remote site routers?

I know it is possible to starve off EIGRP updates by limiting the bandwidth

bandwidth required for EIGRP (depending on the network)?
The reason I ask this is because we have a large flat EIGRP network. Part of
the network runs low speed WAN links. We have about 16 different spokes run
into one tunnel and the bandwidth limited to 500 on the hub. Sometime we get
sort of a SIA storm on the WAN links, but not as bad LAN side. I beleive it
is because we are starving off EIGRP and the spokes can't get all the
responses from quires. Solving the problem is not important because we are
redesigning the network away from one flat EIGRP AS; however, I would just
like to understand why the issue is on the WAN.
