That would be ripe for abuse, though! There would be no way for proctors to
know whether or not it was white noise you were listening to or a nice
overview of mcast configuration and troubleshooting.

I travel for a living and so I carry around noise-canceling headphones
everywhere I go. I don't think they would have done a lot of good in the
lab environment. I guess they would have knocked down some of the fan noise
(I don't think that's an issue anymore is it? And even if it were to be,
most of us are totally impervious after years of working in rooms full of
noisy gear.) But it wouldn't have done anything about all the ringing from
the voice candidate pods (I had
one right next to me but I was so intently focused I barely noticed).
