This sort of thing is usually accomplished using DNS 'views', where
hosts on the inside get a different (internal) view of the DNS than
hosts on the outside.
If the web server is only ever referenced using a FQDN, use DNS to
solve the problem. There are undoubtedly several ways to do it.
