Yes, you have that exactly correct. The key, of course, being that in
your case you're sitting for a different CCIE written in May than you
sat for in January, because that wouldn't meet the minimum six-month
separation requirement for a single exam number. Otherwise, you could
have waited until June to sit the same exam over again.
