Technically, yes. However, the spanning tree, macl and vacl's won't be quite as granular.
The point of sw3 and sw4 is to simulate multiple paths to non-directly connected routers. You won't be able to do the BGP lab very well, specifically the iBGP lab with confederations. I'm sure there are more limitations. Otherwise, why would there be 4 switches in the lab?
You can make sw3 and sw4 3550's if needed to cut costs. These are about $195 on eBay, each. You must make the investment to reap the rewards!
