Why Can not configure trunk on this interface

Hi Guys,
That could be simple but I am more used to core routers IOS XR
specific than small switches, I would appreciate if some one please
let me know why I cannot configure mode trunk on this switch which is
connected to ASR 1004 router from the other side. I did not config
the interface trunk as Auto and did not config the dynamic status as
below

 From the switch side here is the error I get on the configs
Switch(config-if)#switchport mode trunk
Command rejected: An interface whose trunk encapsulation is "Auto" can
not be configured to "trunk" mode.
