Keep in mind that that deep down we all need a small reward to keep
motivated. Pretend for a minute that you were training a dog to do a
trick. Would you be successful doing hundreds of hours of practice while
holding the reward to the end when he finally (if ever) completed the
trick?
During my study I found Modern Warfare literally calling my name every time
I sat down. Somehow my mouse was compelled to launch the game ever time I
sat down to study.
I think the part we all forget is to reward ourselves on the baby steps we
make every time we study. Of course there is going to be a big reward at
the end of the rainbow but why not give yourself a small rewards on the
way. Nobody said you had to punish yourself during your studies. Why not
play 15 minutes of your favorite game (or whatever floats your boat) after
you complete a module, or learn a new technology. Just like the dog, you'll
get a lot farther when your not fighting yourself during your training.
