MPLS: Unicast routing in the provider network

Hi everyone,

I noticed the expanded blueprint mentioned Unicast routing using LDP. I
must have heard/read that commonly, OSPF/ISIS is used in the provider
network for label exchange even though EIGRP/static label binding could also
be used. I have also noticed that almost all mpls configs i have seen use
OSPF since ISIS is not tested in the RnS arena.

1. What are the caveats/differences/advantages of running EIGRP as a PE-P-PE
unicast routing protocol? I tried labbing this up between a couple of
routers and seem not to see the difference in the label exchange with EIGRP
vs OSPF. Is this fair game in the lab since the blueprint does not
specifically mention the routing protocol in the PROVIDER network?

2. Static label binding: I havent tried this, but does any one have any
resource where i can at least familiarise myself with this?

Thank you

Steven.
