Well... You definitely don't want to add the new switch with a priority of
zero. I would go for something more like 61440 if you want to make sure it
is not the root. But if this switch has a single connection back to the
network and you are connecting it to an existing PVST+ domain, I would
recommend keeping with the flow and add it as a PVST+ switch as well. But
no difference. It will run MST/RPVST+ with itself and PVST with the rest of
the domain. The only thing important is it should always be or never be the
root for all VLAN's in the instance that you are running.

Subject: Merging MSTP and PVST regions

Hi all,

I've got a CatOS switch running PVST and I need to connect a new switch
running MSTP (one link only) . I don't want the new switch to take over as
root and cause an STP reconvergence (root bridge election) throughout the
whole network.. Any advise?

CAToS
-----------
set spantree priority 24576 1,3,5

New Switch
-----------------
spanning-tree mode mst
spanning-tree portfast bpduguard default
spanning-tree etherchannel guard misconfig
spanning-tree extend system-id
!
spanning-tree mst configuration
 name CISCO
 revision 1
 instance 1 vlan 1-4094
!
spanning-tree mst 0-1 priority 0
!

Thanks
