Well Aftab, The choice is really yours but I would say no knowledge is lost,
go for it. If your company is paying for it too why not? All the better.
You say you love working on the IOS. The voice world is not completely GUI
you know. Your PRI lines, analog lines, H323 configuration, UBE, Voice
vlans, QOS, calling/called regular expressions, gatekeepers etc. are not all
configured in the Call Manager (As you might know). So you see IOS
knowledge is vital. If anything, your IOS capability increases.
Using myself as example; I started heavy on my CCIE RS (had even done and
passed the written) brushing up my MPLS knowledge before a forecast attempt
at the lab then I had an opportunity to learn voice while helping to
configure 24 sites with CUCM. Well, to cut the story short I ended up doing
my CCVP and my company paid for it even though they wouldn't pay for my
CCIE.
Now am back on my lab quest reading my Doyle to get back the flow. Bottom
line the choice is yours but I say go for it.

Hi All,
Presently I am studying for my CCIE RS and am about to complete BGP section
.
I work for a company and I have exposure to more than 80000 IP phones and
very good at call manager but I dont like voice.
I can troubleshoot all the issues which I get as I am aware of the network
and am finding it very easy t troubleshoot. working on call manager and
studying after office time, I did earn my CCNA,CCNP and working on CCIE RS.
My company would pay if I get my CCVP vertification and it should not take
me more than a month to write the exam as I am good with the subject and I
just need to book the exam - go though the Jeremy's video and clear the
exam.
Please advise me if it is a good decision to write the CCVP exams > WIll i
loose my focus from CCIE RS ? I love routing and switching and working on
the IOS. Few people told that if I aim for CCVP I will loose the love and
interest in RS. I agree the CCM is GUI but my focus is only CCIE RS but I am
asked to write CCVP.
Will it be a good bet to go for this exam ? Kindly advise...
Regards
Aftab
