I am over the euphoria of passing the CCIE R&S V4 lab on my First Attempt
in dubai. (I cannot Believe I actually cried after getting my result =:) ).
Well Here Goes. I am Going to start at the end of the story thou. :).
The Venue was Cisco dubai, the date was july the 6th. There where four
of us for the lab. 3 for R&S and one for Sec. The Overall testing area
was confortable and very condusive. To my surprise there was a resting
area just outside the testing area where one could step out at any
time during the lab for drinks and refreshment.
TS SECTION
As mentioned by many guys on this group one gets a number of tickets
to solve within 2 hours. Most of the tickets were pretty straight
forward and obvious as long as one has done his homework very well. I
would say the TS section shouldnt be a problem for someone that is
ready for the lab.
CONFIG SECTION
To my surprise I dddnt need to draw stuff because the diagrams
provided by Cisco were pretty clear adding to the fact that I was
viewing the diagram on a large Monitor.
Finished 30 mins before time and rechecked my work. I was pretty
confident after the whole experience that I would pass or would be
thereabouts.
From what I have experienced a certain amount of the exams has to do
with psychology and how well an individual handles stuff under
pressure.
Overall I would say do not take the lab until you are 100 % prepared
for it both technically and psychologically.
THE JOURNEY
I started my journey in 2007 and passed the written qualification test in
february 2008. After passing the Written Qualification exams I Read the
Following Books
1. Routing TCP/IP Vol 1 atleast 3 times.
2. Internet Routing Architecture 2 times
3. Developing IP Multicast Networks 2 times
4. MPLS and VPN Architectures (Vol 1)2 times
5. CCNP BCMSN Study Guide 5 times
6. Cisco Qos
7. CCNP ISCW Study Guide (For Security)
After Studying the aforementioned books i used INE CODs and WBKs vol 1 and
2. Both Ver 4 and ver 5. I would say the INE advanced Technology class COD
is the best study material I had used For my Lab Prep. The content of the
workbooks covers more than one needs for the CCIE labs. I think most of the
WB labs are at a higher difficulty level than the actual thing. Overall the
Evil guys at INE have a great product that really helped me in my pursuit
for the CCIE. Thanks Guys.
I spent most of my time on my home rack practising and drawing up
scenarios. I am glad all those long nights have payed off.
Finally a big thanks to alot of guys on GS. Hash, Scott, Narbik,
Marko, Larry, Anthony, the list goes on thou.
Still tryn to figure out what to do wit all the free time.
Happy Labbing.
Thanks
Kabir Ibrahim
