Hard luck story #4000001

You wouldn't believe what happened to me!! I arrived 45 minutes early,
and the receptionist told me I was in the wrong building so sent me down
to another suburb to the main cisco headquarters. There was no one there
when I arrived, I asked the lady in the coffee shop was this building
name the forum and she told me it used to be...I checked the address
against the one I had and it was wrong, I was at 81 Pacific Highway.

At this stage it was 7:59 (1 minute to go) so I jumped into cab and
asked for 201 pacific highway, building name the forum. And he took me
there. Went in, only 2 minutes late.....confirmed with reception that
this was the forum building....wrong building again....turns out there
are 2 different 201 Pacific Highways, both buildings are called the
forum, both in different suburbs and the original building I was in was
right.

Ran around looking for a cab, and by the time I arrived I was 30 minutes
late, badly sweating and my mind was all over the place! I was 45
minutes into the TS and I hadn't even fixed one thing, I just couldn't
concentrate, but then I seemed to click and got through 9 of them, but
didn't have a chance to do any verification.

When I looked at the lab, there was nothing I thought I couldn't do, but
the 30 minutes that I was after losing was in the back of my head all
the time. By the time I had finished reading it and doing some diagrams
I was an hour into it, and my mind was still everywhere!!

I did complete every section except maybe 1 or 2 questions, but I was
afraid of spending too much time verifying, and I knew I would have to
be really lucky for it all to work, which it didn't.

But the good news was, there was no task that I looked at that I
couldn't do. Compared to the mock labs, it was actually easier. The IP
addressing did throw me a bit at the start with all the similar looking
/30 networks, especially in the TS.

But I definitely would not want people to use my story as another
percentage (in the fail column) so they shouldn't take it because it is
impossible.... I would rather the opposite. This thing is passable,
without a doubt. The main thing I took from it, was all of the INE
advice to keep calm. After I got over the initial 45 minutes, the rest I
was able to think clearly and keep my thoughts.

Even though I knew in the back of my head I failed when leaving, I
actually left happy. Because when I sat down and read the lab, nothing
fazed me at all(except the EEM!!), so I knew there was a number with my
name on it somewhere!

I am heading back to Ireland next week (book/laptop in hand), when I get
back I will definitely be heading to Sydney to have another tackle off
the monster. Hopefully the next time I will win, and even if I don't
win, I will just ring INE again and buy a bigger sword for the 3rd
battle!!!!

Mark my words....I will be splashed on INEs front page and be the reason
they are offering discounts to new customers!!!

P.S

I knew there was something else I will put this in the (Not so
technical, technical question section)

... does anyone have a hard and fast rule for what a fragmentation and
bc size should be when prioritising (and ensuring interleaving) VOIP
packets in FRTS. I know they will be different depending on the CIR of
the interface but I seemed to have read conflicting articles, and want
to ensure I am doing it right.

In to the final stretch now of my preparation for the R&S lab.

There are a few niggling questions I have my head, and I would
appreciate it if anyone could help. They may be answered somewhere so I
apologize for doubling up, but I have only had time for a really brief
look as I need to get back to the labs!!

I will break them up.

Technical
 - What is the default window scaling size? I know the tcp window size
is 4128, but I was asked a question about enabling the window scaling
size up to twice the maximum of the default. The answer was 131072, but
I was never able to find anything on the default size to see how the
answer was derived.

 - If a subnet is not part of an IGB, but the start of the lab always
asks for full reachability at the end, should I redistribute is as
connected? I do as a rule, but I would like to be 100% sure so I dont
lose points.

- If I put non intrusive acls/no ip route-cache on for testing, do I
lose points if I dont remove them?

Not Technical
 - Do they provide an adequate amount of colored pens/pencils and paper?
I seem to go through about a tree for every mock lab so I want to make
sure they will give me enough.

Not so Technical (I think I have OSPF on the brain!!)
 - Does anyone have any tips to help me in the lab? I have used
everything INE have thought me so far, but was just wondering if anyone
done(does) anything that helped them, especially around note taking. I
seem to have trouble with reading through the full paper and documenting
how one question affects another, by the time I get to about section 6
and above I always forget what the lab asked for in the opening parts!!

Thanks very much, any help is much appreciated. I have been greatful for
all the assistance so far, special thanks to Anthony Sequeira(Your mock
lab thought me so much), and Narbik. I just hope I pass now, I am
heading home to Ireland for a much needed holiday and I dont want to
have to bring the books.

Please unicast replies as I am out of the office and I can access the
folder my groupstudy mails go directly into.
