Traffic Engineering - record-route and path-selection metric

Hi,

I'm pretty unclear about these two parameters for Traffic Engineering.
I'm looking for some theory as well as examples.

The record-route seems to be necessary for fast-reroute but I've seen
it in other examples where the role is not clear.

path-selection metric te is the default so when would you set it to igp?
