I do not like the statement of absolutes when guiding someone through this lab. Therefore, statements like "if you use it more than twice, and use it outside the scope of IP Services, you are not ready" I completely disagree with. In fact, I presume it is statements like this that actually lead many to recommend avoiding Group Study completely a month or so prior to their exam.
Just like the statement - "Graded mock labs are a waste of time and money" I also find completely incorrect for some individuals. The purpose of a graded mock lab is not to teach technologies and the Cisco 360 program certainly agrees with me. But I suppose this is for another thread.
So here is the deal in my opinion...
Use of the DOC-CD is another aspect of exam preparation and strategy that becomes rather personal. One candidate may prepare and pass with very little utilization of it, but for another candidate, the DOC-CD is absolutely critical.
One thing I think everyone would agree with here is the fact that overuse (over reliance) on the DOC-CD can definitely be an indication that one is not ready. For example, if you are relying on the documentation to configure any variation of a router protocol's authentication, it is pretty clear that you have not practiced with your core IGP protocols nearly enough.
But for other areas, referencing the DOC-CD quickly and efficiently in the lab is certainly fine and dandy. Cat QoS, IPv6, BGP, Multicast, IPv6 Multicast, IP Services are all areas that jump out at me where we may need to quickly reference a configuration guide or command reference during the heat of battle.
I have lots of free resources available to assist with this topic (videos, blogs, interactive exercises), let me know if you need links.
Enjoy your prep Oskar!
