Well, again it comes down to the old discussion of $ or not $...yet
there is a huge difference between open source and free. Something which
is Open source does not necessarily free and something which is not free
does not necessarily come with a 2-4-hour onsite support; but (sadly?!)
something that really is worth it can not necessarily be trusted by a
Wall Street monster.

As someone who's job was to discuss with decision makers I can assure
you that 99% of fat wallet owners prefer to be protected by a giant name
like HP or IBM rather than Nagios or Argus etc. I do understand that it
seems a bit odd to you but when you're presenting Argus or Nagios to a
board of investors you will be hit by questions like these; "where is
their nearest office?!" - do you know where the nearest Nagios office in
your city is? Is it possible to jump on a "CAP call" with their
technical support and "developer engineers"? If I hit a big problem
(technically a bug) today at 9am are they able to do something by 10am?
If down the track and after an OS or IOS upgrade your software becomes
"sort of incompatible" with something in MS-Windows or Cisco IOS do
those big guys care about your app, the APIs you used etc.? You might
wish to know that Microsoft offered it's MAPI code to Cisco, just to
help them to come up with a better WAN optimizer; well why Cisco?

It's more like a business discussion but again it all depends on what
you want to do. If one just wants to know "what's up" probably he/she
can get away with a simple scheduled ping script :)
