Most of the larger open source players out there have realized their user base wants / needs a maintenance agreement to use it within their organization.
Two examples:
http://www.nagios.com/
http://www.opennms.com/
Even some of the larger size SPs and critical networks use them. I would trust a Nagios install on *nix box way before considering solarwinds on a Windows 2003/SQL200[05] box. I think you might be mixing product maturity and open source as being the same thing.
