I do agree that the compensation was very fair... But..... Seriously
here, calling it a BETA implies that there was some ALPHA testing done
first where the complete and utter disasters described could have been
avoided.

Realistically the test itself would not have changed that much, so it's
simply the process of implementing within the Vue environment. With
every other exam done through Vue there are stringent tests done on their
equipment and the need to demonstrate several levels of completion. So
I'm wondering who actually did these test, how they turned out, and what
perhaps happened or changed after those tests were done.

Putting a test on Vue systems is much more complicated than getting up
one morning and saying "Hey man, watch this....". :)

So I suspect there were many levels of things going awry. Hopefully they
are being investigated and eliminated! But again, I think that the
correct response was given even in this bad situation. (Not to mention
that the people got to see the exam as well, which is worth something
too!)

I would think exactly the opposite actually. You have an opportunity to
take the exam (beta), help the CCIE program and get a chance at getting
your digits for free (Granted you bomb and technical difficulties gets
you another voucher). Somebody has to work the bugs out, right? A
drive to Chicago is a lot less costly than a flight to SJ or RTP.

  Anthony,

Here at IPX we have received the same exact feedback -- utter and
complete disaster. Also, our students were refunded and given a voucher
for a retake. It was quite discouraging to me as well to see Cisco treat
  candidates like rats...oh well : )

My advice is to stay away from these sorts of "experiments" in the
future until bugs are worked out

Unfortunately, I had one of my students attempt a Pearson center for
their exam about two weeks ago now.

It was a disaster. Not "little bumps" as someone pointed out here. It
  was a pure disaster.

There was no access to any of the promised tools; DOC-CD, notepad,
calculator, but the worst part was the fact that the four switches were
not accessible. There was a flaw in the Graphical User Interface for
  their access.

While it was a shame to see Cisco beta test this on live candidates, it
was nice to see them refund his money, extend his written expiration,
and provide him with a free voucher for a retake. Perhaps the most
stressful thing about it for him during the entire experience, was
hearing the resident non-CCIE proctor repeat over and over again "it is
by design" whenever he pointed out these fatal flaws. :-( The fact that
he did not completely lose his cool is a testament to his strong
  psychology for passing.

Its horrible. I expect everyone at my center to get a free retake, not
sure about others. One guy left half way through because of so many
issues. Be glad you did not sign up for it. I am going to hold back
until I hear back about the case I opened. The test engine was slow
and kept crashing. I had a 20" monitor but a resolution that looked
1024x768 (stretched because it was wide screen) so you could not view
what you wanted to. Also tools/resources you are used to accessing you
did not have access to. (That one is HUGE!!!!) I want to say more but
not sure whats covered but the NDA. I already have opened a case, will
update you after I hear more.

    The good:

Security, that place is security, its nothing like VUE. Its also far
more secure then RTP. They even looked in my pockets. You could not
leave for lunch during the config section as it looked at first.

OEQ's are a non-issue. I don't want to say more here then if your
prepared don't worry it. I mean it, if your ready your going to be
100% fine. No reason to get a waiver now. The promo to 360 students is
    now worthless.

Did I pass? No result yet but I was very very close so I might get a
number soon. If I had access to all the promised tools I still would
have passed even with all those issues.
