Policing

Hi Guys

I am looking for some clarification on policing

I have been reading about different rate/color policers and want to zone in
on 2 specific examples:

Single Rate 3 color
police 64000 8000 8000 conform-action transmit exceed-action
set-qos-transmit 4 violate-action drop

Two Rate 3 color
police cir 256000 bc 64000 pir 512000 be 64000
conform-action transmit
exceed-action set-prec-transmit 1
violate-action drop

So as far as I understand, the single rate 3 color policer allows for a 2
bucket approach where any excess Bc tokens spill into the Be bucket for use
in another time interval.
However the single rate policer does not specify a PIR.

On the other hand the two rate policer does sepcify a PIR and supports
sustained Bc and Be bursting due to both the Bc and Be bucket being refilled
each time interval.

What I don't understand is if I were to use the single rate policer and set
the Be to burst up to the port speed wouldnt this be the same as setting a
PIR?
Is the difference just how the policers make use of token buckets?

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
