In the case of PuTTY, double and triple-clicking (left mouse button)
highlights words or lines. Anything that is selected/highlighted is
copied to the clipboard. Shift+Insert, or right-click on the mouse
pastes the contents of the clipboard. Holding down the Alt key when
selecting text enables column-mode selections to be made.

I second what Dale has already said, I would also suggest setting your buffer to 5000 lines. Right click on the left-most top of the screen, where the PuTTY icon is, select change settings, select window and change your lines of scroll back.

0.60 has been the beta and most recent release for several years. The download link seems a little strange, so don't feel like you're getting scammed, it's been http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html for as long as I can remember.
