In the case of PuTTY, double and triple-clicking (left mouse button)
highlights words or lines. Anything that is selected/highlighted is
copied to the clipboard. Shift+Insert, or right-click on the mouse
pastes the contents of the clipboard. Holding down the Alt key when
selecting text enables column-mode selections to be made.
