Hello,
It is very useful when virtual inks are present. In short, it allows packets
to use a non-backbone area as transit when following a path learned from a
virtual-link. This was a post I wrote when studying the command. I got the
topology and idea from a post in the GS archives so you may be able to find
more information there.
