If you work with Linux then you could try to work with macchanger (google it)
and try to manipulate the mac assignment during the boot time something like:
edit the /etc/rc.d/rc.local
/usr/local/bin/macchanger -m <EXPAND_MAC> eth<x>
I didn't try it on VM only on real hardware (works grate)
