Re: CCIE R&S V4 in 3 months

Hi Mark,

I have my lab date booked for the start of June and am now studying hard.
A review of my failure of R&S v3 last year indicated a number of factors
that assisted with my failure:

    * Intensive job, working on tenders and quotes often in the evening
      and through the weekend. Solution, I quit my job and negotiated
      with my new employer 2 days paid leave every week to study in my
      home lab until June;
    * Ran out of time on version 3, spent too much time going to the
      docs. Solution, negotiated with my new employer to pay for a INE 2
      week bootcamp in the UK (which starts Monday - flying out today)
      to assist with time management and lab strategy;
    * Old physical lab, o.k. for v3, but not so good for v4. Solution, I
      re-invested in my physical lab. Having children and addressing
      their needs at all hours of the night, on-line labs just didn't
      work for me. Purchased 1 x 2801, 2 x 1841 (all with max memory and
      flash), upgraded existing 2851xm's to the max. Also convinced the
      Cisco guys locally to lend me some additional equipment. Obtained
      a full height rack and purchased all fixings just to make it look
      nice :)
    * Inadequate reading materials for v4. Purchased from Cisco Press 7
      new books, including multicast, IPv6, switching, QoS, security and
      troubleshooting. All but one has an on-line component which is
      nice and readable through an iPhone when I am on the move;
    * Inadequate lab materials for v4. Purchased INE v5 and Narbick v2
      (already had v1).

As far as I am concerned those numbers will be mine, as they will be
yours - time will tell if I get it in June (just over 3 months and
counting), but I am committed and will not quit. Plus every time I study
for the lab I learn a lot more information that I put to use in my job
(though the wife is not impressed with my ever expanding knowledge of
all things Cisco shaped).

So yes, I do think it is possible to pass in 3 months if you have a good
knowledge base and a clear study plan, with quality study time.

Best regards, Andy
