Hi,

You are suppose to enable encapsulation ppp and assigned the required interface to the multilink group first b4 going ahead to create the multilink interface then assigning the IP address to the multilink interface.

You don't need any Ip address on those interfaces you wish to associate to the multilink group.

Hope this help.

Subject: Multilink PPP

Hi GS,

currently I configure multilink ppp over serial interface.
Now I'm confused about a behavior ..

Assume first I configure the serial link s0/0 with encaps ppp. This interface has also an ip address assigned.
Then I configure a routing protocol over this line...all works fine.
After that I should configure ppp multink over this interfaces.

1. What is the correct order of configuring this ? Should I at first configure the multilink interface and than attach to the serial IF ?
Or should I first configure the association on the serial interface an then create the multilink interface ?

2. What about the IP addresses ? I found out after configuring the multilink interface the routing neighors are between the multilink interface although the same ip address is on both interfaces ( serial and multilink)
Therefore should I remove the ip address from the serial link ?? Is the multilink interface the part for all layer 3 configuratins ?

Dennis
