Tony:
In my 6+ years as a CCIE I have found that even though I am doing a
technical engineering job, that I was always also teaching along the way. If
I had other engineers working with me I would show them how to do things
they were unfamiliar with. When doing post implementation turnover
activities to a customer, I would be teaching the customer about the
changes, how it worked and how to troubleshoot.

My feeling is that a CCIE is also a teacher / mentor by trade. Some have an
extra gift of being able to teach in a classroom environment and impart
knowledge at that level.

Thanks
