I work at large acedemic institution with thousands on lan devices, if
you're looking at network management tool, we use a few including
Solarwinds, HPOV, NetQoS, Bluecoat Packeeter, CiscoWorks, etc..

But if you focus on packet analysis, then you can never go wrong with
WireShark.
