P - periodic downloaded static route

One of the options of routes from show ip route is listed as a "P - periodic downloaded static route", I cant find any reference to it on the DocCD and googling other sites is difficult as the text appears on every sh ip route. Could anybody please point me in the direction of guidance on what it is or some documentation on it?
