I would suspect your tftp server.

Try tftp32 if you are not already.

I must be missing something basic here but it just wont work! Frustrated and
baffled I am left now thinking....hmmm

It starts to copy the file, but somewhere around 70% it just resets and
aborts. And yes, I have enough space on the flash to put the image.
