Anbu,

To be honest the best way to save money is to use dynamips.

If you want to do all your studying using this solely You can buy a
workstation with a quad core and a couple gigs of RAM and then purchase a
couple 3560's and 3550's

Look thru the archives and or do some Google searches to get all the setup
information for connecting dynamips to the external switches using a
breakout switch etc. you are looking at around a couple thousand.

If you don't want to use this as your primary method then using a
workstation to simulate a lot and then using rack rentals in my opinion can
actually save you money in my opinion.

But price it out. See what conclusion you come to in the amount of time you
think it will take you to obtain your CCIE. Good Luck.

Thanks, if budget is not allowing to go through with 2811 , What is the
recommendation to replace those 2811 to match the version 4 requirement ?

Scuba,

To build their rack you will need
6 2811's
       6 WIC-2T's
       8 DB60 to smart-serial back to backs
2 smart serial to smart-serial back to backs
4 3560's
1 older router that will support 2 or more NM modules. I think a 3640 is a
perfect router
       2 NM-4T's
1 NM-2E (This is if you want to dual purpose the frame-switch for a
backbone router)
Lots of 7 ft patch cables.

You can then use the 3640 as your frame-switch and your backbone routers.
You can use VRF's on the 3640 to make it appear as several backbone routers.

That should be all the equipment you need.

I am surprised you are not getting direction from NMC as to how to configure
their topology. But you will need to contact them to get their frame-relay
switch configuration and the BB router configurations. Good Luck in your
studies.

I want to buy 4 3560's and I want to buy 6 2811's with wic-2t's. Can I get
the wic-2t's with rj45 ports so I can use cat 6 to plug them into 3560's ?
If not, how can I connect them to the 3560's ? Do I have to have smart
serial cables ?
