The point being that the cost of everything has changed over the years.
While the lab cost may seem obscenely expensive it's in "today's
dollars" as the economists like to say. The labs of previous years
weren't necessarily "cheaper" when viewed in that fashion.

At least unless you're still lamenting when candy bars were 10 cents and
a gallon of gas was under a dollar. ;)
