Subject: OT Layer 3 problem at layer 2
I recently had a problem with a customer complaining of dropped packets.
Basic tests did not show any packet loss and we were able to load the
link to over 75% of bandwidth.
However more advanced tests did confirm packet loss.
When using icmp or udp test there was no packet loss but TCP packets
show 305 loss under load.
Cutting to the chase the problem was chased to the local provider who
blamed the NTE.
I have never heard of an NTE box filtering or blocking TCP packets as it
was supposed to be a pure Layer 2 connection.
Anyone else experienced this kind of problem with local last mile
provider?
